Jared Leto News: Singer-Actor to Top Bill 'The Outsider'
Jared Leto will top-bill the action thriller "The Outsider." This piece of information was confirmed by Waypoint Entertainment and Linson Entertainment, with the former saying that it will finance the film that will be produced by Ken Kao, John Linson, and Art Linson.
"The Outsider" will operate on the script written by Andrew Baldwin, which will follow the story of a captive American soldier who is set free from prison with the help of his Yakuza cellmate. With this, he repays his debt of gratitude to the Yakuza in a way that will require him to maneuver in the world of criminals.
Slash Film noted that the Leto is not the kind of actor who just signs up to any project. However, once the actor accepts a role, more often than not, it is for a transformational one, citing the actor's Joker in the upcoming "Suicide Squad," Mark David Chapman in "Chapter 27," and Rayon in "The Dallas Buyers Club." The website opined that, with Leto playing the lead in the soon-to-be produced movie, moviegoers can expect that the actor will give a refreshing and promising take on his "The Outsider" character.
Apart from Leto, another reason why the film should be looked forward to is that it will mark Martin Zandvliet's directorial debut for an English-language film. After the critical success of his "Land of Mine" in last year's Toronto International Film Festival, Sony Pictures acquired the rights of the movie that can get a commercial release within the year.
"The Outsiders" will be Leto's second film after bagging the Best Supporting Actor Oscar statuette for his "Dallas Buyers Club" Rayon character in 2013. Before he showcases his acting chops via "The Outsider," moviegoers will witness him first as The Joker via "Suicide Squad," which will be released on August 5.
"The Outsider" won the Black List choice in 2011. Since then, many have attempted to adapt it into a movie but never saw fruition because of the stars and directors backing out. And with Leto, Waypoint Entertainment, and Linson Entertainment teaming up, the story can finally be brought to the big screen.
