Jason Aldean News: Country Music Superstar Bags Plum Award in Academy of Country Music Awards 2016

Country music superstar Jason Aldean bested his co-nominees in the recently concluded 2016 Academy of Country Music Awards held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas as he was named Entertainer of the Year.

Garbed in a typical country singer look, with cowboy hat and boots, Aldean kissed his new wife, Brittanty Kerr, before proceeding to the stage to get hold of his award.

Kerr is a former "American Idol" contestant and is the second wife of the country music superstar.

"I was just starting to think this one wasn't in the cards for me… this is one of the best nights of my professional career… I may be rough around the edges a little bit, but I love this business. This is one of the best nights of my professional career," Aldean said in his acceptance speech.

Aldean won over other nominees for the Entertainer of the Year award, such as Garth Brooks Eric Church, Miranda Lambert, and Luke Bryan, who are also his peers.

While it is true that Aldean won the plum that night, it was singer Chris Stapleton who won most of the awards handed out that night. Apart from bringing home the Male Vocalist of the Year award, Stapleton also bagged the New Male Vocalist, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year awards.

Other recipients of the awards given out that night were:

  • Miranda Lambert, Female Vocalist of the Year and Vocal Event of the Year for "Smokin' And Drinkin" featuring Little Big Town
  • Florida Georgia Line, Vocal Duo of the Year
  • Little Big Town, Vocal Group of the Year
  • Kelsea Ballerini, New Female Vocalist of the Year
  • Old Dominion, New Vocal Duo or Group of the Year
  • Thomas Rhett, Single of the Year for the song "Die A Happy Man"
  • Eric Church, Video of the Year for "Mr. Misunderstood"

The 2016 Academy of Country Music Awards is the 51st edition of the country music award-giving body.
