Jay-Z Calling Fans to Say Thank You for Using Tidal Streaming Service

American rapper Jay-Z has been personally calling fans to thank them for their use of Tidal, his music streaming service.

Subscribers to the new music streaming service, Tidal, were surprised when one of its co-owners, record producer, rapper, and entrepreneur, Jay-Z, called to personally thank them for signing up for the newly launched service.

In what one user referred to as one of the best customer service experience they've had, Rolling Stone reported the rapper called his fans and engaged them in conversation on behalf of other Tidal co-owners -- like his wife, Beyonce Knowles, Madonna, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Daft Punk, Rihanna, Jack White, Alicia Keys, Usher and other high-profile artists.

Tidal executive, Vania Schlogel told Rolling Stone the calls weren't made at random. Tidal's infrastructure allows artists to see names of subscribers who listen to their music on a regular basis, and this musician-friendly system allows the artists themselves to contact their fans and interact with them.

In this instance, Jay-Z expressed his gratitude to subscribers who used Tidal to stream his 2001 album, "The Blueprint."

This type of customer service marks a paradigm shift in the music streaming industry, where celebrity-to-fan contact has been seen only in sports where athletes regularly phone season ticket holders. According to reports, musician Jack White, and other artists involved in Tidal have been making their own personal calls, as well.

Tidal, which is reportedly a life project for Jay-Z, who works on it on a daily basis, is gearing to change how people talk about and value music, vis-à-vis its artists, and how musicians can get direct feedback from the people who listen to them.

The high fidelity music streaming service, launched in a star-studded event last March 30, is competing against other bigger and more established competitors in the market, including Spotify, Songza, Google Play Music, iTunes, and Beats Music.
