Jay-Z to Score Gatsby: Joins Leonardo DiCaprio on Baz Luhrmann's New Film (VIDEO)

Jay-Z is to score "The Great Gatsby" in an effort to give the movie adaptation a fresh feel and modern twist.

The Great Gatsby is set to be released later in 2013, and will be directed by Baz Luhrmann, who has brought out iconic films such as "Moulin Rouge" and "Romeo and Juliet" in the past.

It has now been reported that rapper Jay-Z has signed up to co-write the original score for the movie, which will not surprise some Luhrmann fans considering his eccentric style and unique take on how traditional stories can be retold and updated to give them a modern yet traditional feel.

The news that Jay-Z would be working on the film was broken by the singer's producer-songwriter, The Bullitts - aka Jeymes Samuel.

Samuel tweeted a message to fans on Dec. 30, "Jay-Z and myself have been working tirelessly on the score for the upcoming #CLASSIC The Great Gatsby! It is too DOPE for words!"

A trailer of the movie had already hinted that Jay-Z would be involved in the production, as it featured one of his songs - a collaboration with Kanye West called "No Church in the Wild."

In 2012, Forbes estimated Jay-Z's net worth at nearly $500 million. He has sold approximately 50 million albums worldwide, while receiving 14 Grammy Awards for his musical work, and numerous additional nominations.

He is consistently ranked as one of the greatest rappers of all-time.

The rapper, real name Shawn Corey Carter, is also married to pop star Beyonce. Together they are featured almost daily among celebrity magazines and entertainment news sites.

"The Great Gatsby" will star Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire, and is scheduled to be released in theaters later this year on May 10.
