Jeremy Lin News: Nets Talk About Point Guard's Season-Ending Injury
There is no hope for "Linsanity" this season. Unfortunately for the Brooklyn Nets' point guard, he suffered a knee injury during last Wednesday's opening game against the Indiana Pacers, which should cost him this season.
Jeremy Lin's fate this season is no different from the last. The 29-year-old point guard was off the court for most of the previous season due to injuries to his hamstring. The season-ending injury to his right knee, which he acquired from a dive during the fourth quarter of their opening game against the Pacers, sent him staggering off the court.
Lin underwent a season-ending surgery on Friday to repair a ruptured patellar tendon, the Nets confirmed. Head Coach Kenny Atkinson, whose known Lin prior to moving to the Nets, spent the morning following his surgery.
"I think my sole, singular thought is for his health, his well-being, his family, it's really a tough time," Atkinson said during Thursday's practice.
"Here's a guy that came back from an injury last year, really worked hard this summer, and to have something like that happen, it's like the Gordon Hayward thing – you're just sick about it," Atkinson said. "You're physically sick."
Lin's injury came as a shock to the whole team. Nevertheless, he was the one who consoled Atkinson, stressing out how equipped the team is this season, even without him. Atkinson admitted he was pleased with the reminder.
General Manager Sean Marks is confident about the surgery. Though he is aware one will not bounce back quickly after these injuries, they are expecting a full recovery because Lin is too.
Marks does not want to jump to conclusions and he says they do not expect Lin to be ready to return to the court on a specific day. He says that they trust their medical team and their performance team to help Lin with rehab and recovery.
