Jeremy Lin News: Point Guard's Absence Allows Spencer Dinwiddie to Shine
With Brooklyn Nets point guard Jeremy Lin out of the court after undergoing a season-ending injury he sustained in the first game against Orlando Magic, Spencer Dinwiddie begins to shine.
Dinwiddie played a key role in the victory of the team over the Cleveland Cavaliers. This impressive showing has pushed coach Kenny Atkinson told New York Post.
In the past three games, Dinwiddie scored 22, which is his career high in points. He also set a career record in assists, which is 11. In the game against Denver Nuggets last Sunday, he logged the second-most minutes on the team at 29 minutes.
Per the abovementioned publication, Dinwiddie has been often overlooked in talks about the Brooklyn backcourt. Last season, he averaged 7.3 points and 3.1 assists in 23 minutes per game although in the same minutes this season, these numbers grew to 11 points and 5.6 assists.
He says that his experience with Atkinson's system was a huge help for him in churning out such remarkable performance:
It's kind of like having gone to summer school before you actually go to college. That half of a season really gave me a jump-start on this season. Obviously you want to make that a point of emphasis, so you can fit in and hopefully flourish in the system.
With the latest outings of Dinwiddie, many eve Atkinson now want to see him in action in with D'Angelo Russell, who is currently recuperating from a knee injury:
I think it's something we have to look at. I do like it because I think D'Angelo is pretty good off the ball.
However, it does not look like he is putting Dinwiddie to the starting lineup just yet:
That's the problem. I think right now, when you're looking at our two point guards, it is D'Angelo and Spencer. So it's tough to play them together.
Of course, things are bound to change when Lin recovers and returns.
