Jerry Seinfeld Replacing Regis Philbin on 'Live! with Kelly' Show; Fans React

It was announced Tuesday that comedian Jerry Seinfeld would be the first guest host to replace Regin Philbin on the "Live! with Kelly!" on ABC, and fans seem torn over Seinfeld joining the daytime talk show.

ABC News reports that Seinfeld will temporarily take over Philbin's spot when the co-host officially departs the show on Nov. 18. According to the report, Seinfeld will co-host with Kelly Ripa for three shows, with those appearances airing Nov. 21-23.

"Jerry is a great friend of ours, and a friend of Kelly’s, and it doesn’t hurt that he’s an entertainment icon,” executive producer Michael Gelman said in a statement. “It’s a great way to kick off the new beginning of our show."

Seinfeld and Ripa will speak with such guests as Jason Segal, Kim Cattrall, Howie Mandel, and others.

The network did not say who might sit in Philbin's chair once Seinfeld's three-day stint is over.

Fans commented on the news this morning, offering reactions on Twitter.

Cathy Knowles Diaz tweeted, "What?!...Wait, that's cool!"

Federal Way Buzz wrote, "Jerry Seinfeld first guest host to follow Philbin: Regis Philbin's chair on "Live!" won't have time to cool off..."

Andrew Steiger was not very excited by the news. "Sorry, nobody replaces Regis," he tweeted.

Karla Porter Archer, however, is definitely a Seinfeld fan. "Omg! seriously?? I will totally watch>> 'Jerry Seinfeld will join Kelly Ripa after Regis Philbin's departure'."

Seinfeld, who has not yet made an official statement regarding his appearance on "Live! with Kelly," is currently on tour, with stops in dozens of U.S. cities and a few overseas.

The comedian is, of course, well known for his lengthy NBC television series "Seinfeld," which ran from 1990 to 1998.
