Duggar Family '19 Kids and Counting' Latest News: Jessa and Ben Seewald Offer Marriage Advice
"19 Kids and Counting" star Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald have only been married for three months, but in a short span of time, the newlyweds have gathered some insight about how to make a marriage work.
In an interview with People magazine, the Seewalds talk about how they work through issues.
"We try not to argue," says Ben.
"If we have a hard time and we talk about it, you just love each other so much more afterwards," Jessa explained. "After a disagreement, I often feel, 'I have never loved you more that I love you now.'"
She also says that it's best not to turn away when there are issues that need to be resolved.
"Ben is the best for sure at saying, 'Sweetheart, we need to talk about this,' if he senses I am irritated or upset about something," she said.
The couple shared more about what they learned and what they say they are learning, such as:
Do talk it through. "It's important not to build walls or turn away from hard topics," says Jessa. It's always best to talk about things.
Don't yell or scream. While yelling is not an issue in the Seewald household, Jessa says that the opposite, not talking about the issue, can also be a problem. "Clamming up is just as bad [as yelling]," she said.
Do budget. Ben says that they have been thinking about finances "a lot lately." The 19-year old says that he and his wife want to avoid getting into debt and try not to waste money. At the same time, helping others is also important to the couple.
"If God blesses us with money, we want to find ways to give it to others who need help," says Ben.
Don't skip romantic dates. "Dates are investing in our marriage," Ben says. "That's a good way to spend our money."
"The most important thing is humility and putting the other person first," Ben adds. "I try to make that my perspective—I'm here to serve her and help her. What can I do to make my life easier?"
