'Jessica Jones' Spoilers, Updates: Krysten Ritter On The Show's Finale, Season 2, And 'The Defenders'
The first season of the Marvel series "Jessica Jones" ended with the former superhero (played by Krysten Ritter) killing Kilgrave (played by David Tennant), the manipulative villain from Jones' past. Jessica Jones had spent the entire first season hunting Kilgrave down and attempting to expose his crimes and lock him up for life. Instead, she got rid of the villain for good.
34-year-old Ritter spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the "conflicting" finale and revealed what prompted Jones to put Kilgrave down permanently, the possibility of a "Jessica Jones" Season 2, and the upcoming "The Defenders" crossover series for Netflix.
"I thought it was this triumphant, victorious moment that she really deserved," Ritter said about the killing of Kilgrave.
She explained that the driving force for that moment came in Episode 10, when Hope Shlottman (played by Erin Moriarty) died after stabbing herself in the neck with a piece of broken glass. Jessica desperately wanted to clear Hope's name and seek justice for her. Ritter told THR: "But when Hope was no longer in the picture, it was almost like she had to kill him for Hope's sake. Enough was enough."
Although no official plans for a second season of "Jessica Jones" has been announced, the Season 1 finale left so many loose threads that a Season 2 seems a logical move. But though Ritter reveals that she is not allowed to talk about plans for Season 2, she said, "I think there is lots of story left to tell with Jessica and I really love playing the character." "I would love to throw on her boots and leather jacket anytime," she added.
Ritter also said that she is looking forward to the upcoming team-up for "The Defenders." And while Jessica Jones has already made it clear that the superhero thing didn't work out for her, Ritter thinks that she will be a valuable asset to The Defenders. She added: "She has super strength. She can fly. Those things come in handy."
All 13 episodes of "Jessica Jones" Season 1 are now streaming on Netflix.
