Jill Duggar Talks Motherhood, Says It's 'Different Than I Thought'

Jill Duggar and her husband Derick Dillard are delighted in their role as new parents to their baby son, Israel David. The "19 Kids and Counting" star gave birth to Israel on April 6, and since then, fans have seen many pictures of the infant on his parents social media accounts, which shows the couple looking very much in love with their little one.

Though Jill has a lot of experience with babies as she is a trained midwife and has also spent a lot of time looking after her younger siblings, she found out that there are some things that are different this time around now that she has become a mother.

"There are a lot of things that seem different that I thought they would be," said Jill to People Magazine. "I have just asked my mom a lot of questions about what is normal and what to expect."

"I call out to my mother and ask things like, 'Is this feeling normal?" and 'How long should I nurse?' Jill says. "Israel's a little boy, he will eat all the time, so I was asking if 20 minutes a feeding was long enough or too much, and how all of it should go."

And while Jill is trying to figure out motherhood, she credits Derick for being "such a good dad."

"He is doing an amazing job helping out with nighttime diaper changes," Jill revealed. "I'll start nursing and when I'm done, he'll take the baby and change his diaper and put him to bed. That is his little routine."

Clearly, Derick is a hands-on dad as in a recent blog post, he reveals that when their son gets fussy, he runs through "a list of possible solutions". These are: "1) Ask him what's wrong, and then remember that babies can't talk 2) Change diaper 3) Burp him 4) Bounce him 5) Give him to momma Jill to feed 6) Repeat until crying stops."

"It has been a fast and furious transition, but I wouldn't trade it for anything," he added. "And as for my wife, well, she is a champion."
