Jimmy Fallon Cancels 'Tonight Show' this Week
No new episodes of "The Tonight Show" are slated to air this week. Host Jimmy Fallon is taking the time off after his mother, Gloria, passed away on Saturday.
"On behalf of everyone at NBC, we extend our deepest condolences to Jimmy and all his family at this time of enormous loss," NBC said in a statement. "Our hearts go out to Jimmy and everyone else whose lives were so touched by Gloria Fallon's love, kindness and support."
Reruns of "The Tonight Show" should air throughout the week while the host grieves for his mother, the network confirmed.
Production for the show was canceled starting on Friday so Fallon could stay by his mother's side. She died the following day, surrounded by her loved ones, at NYU Langone Medical Center in New York City. She was 68 years old.
Gloria appeared on Jimmy's first episode on "The Tonight Show" in 2014.
Colleagues and friends in the industry offered their condolences and prayers. They took to social media to extend their love and support for Fallon during this rough time
Miley Cyrus, who performed on "The Tonight Show" each night for a week last month, also sent her heartfelt condolences. She wrote, "l know it's tough to do when we lose someone we care about, I couldnt image not havin my mama.... I am so sorry."
Fellow host from other networks also extended their condolences to Fallon. Stephen Colbert, in a tweet, said that mothers are the first and best audience. The host of CBS' "The Late Show" empathizes with Fallon as he has also lost his own mother back in 2013.
Andy Cohen, Loni Love, Terry Crews, and Josh Gad are a few of the many TV personalities who tweeted condolences on Sunday.
"The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon" returns with brand new episodes next week.
