Jodi Arias Trial: Arias Allegedly Spent Night With New Man After Killing Alexander

Former boyfriend takes the stand, tells all

Jodi Arias allegedly spent the night after the brutal murder of Travis Alexander with another man. Ryan Burns took the stand on Wednesday to reveal his own relationship with Arias and how she spent the night with him just hours after Alexander was killed.

The two had met at a conference and made plans to keep in touch, with Arias calling Ryan to arrange a meeting the day after the murder. She set out on the 12-hour drive but was out of touch for several hours, according to Burns.

"I tried to call, but her phone went straight to voicemail. I contacted another friend she was meant to visit as well. She is kind of air-headed and said she took the wrong freeway and went the wrong direction for a few hours, then got tired and went to sleep," Burns told the court.

When she finally arrived, Burns noted, she had "two small bandages on one of her fingers. She told me she worked at Margaritaville and she had cut her finger" on broken glass. The duo then went back to Burns' house, where things turned intimate.

"She got on top of me pretty impressively, but then we just stopped," Burns insisted. They then talked about "her religious views and my religious views. I didn't want her to regret anything about her trip."

Of course, Burns had no way of knowing that Alexander lay dead in his own home back in California or that Arias was the main suspect in his death.

"It was very awkward… hard to believe you're this close to something that's so dramatic. She explained that she was never at Travis' but that the truth would eventually come out about who actually hurt him. That was the story she fed everyone," Burns told HLN's Nancy Grace after testifying in court.

"We talked quite a few times after it came out. She called me at 4 a.m. and said that Travis had died. Travis Alexander… she confirmed, and I was shocked because he was such a young guy, happy, everybody loved him…" Burns told Grace.

"The entire time, for two or three weeks after Travis died, she said she was gone and missing for those 24 hours. I didn't know when he had died; I didn't believe she had killed him. I spoke to her the night before she was arrested; she seemed calm, giggling… very abnormal in retrospect," Burns concluded.

Arias faces the death penalty if found guilty of stabbing and shooting Alexander. The trial continues today.
