Johnny Depp & Orlando Bloom return for the 5th swashbuckling instalment of 'Pirates of the Caribbean' series
At its D23 convention in Anaheim, Disney announced that Orlando Bloom, who played blacksmith-turned-pirate Will Turner in the franchise's first three movies, will be back for the fifth instalment, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales." Johnny Depp came as Captain Sparrow for the promotion of the film.
All through filming in Australia, the news of Orlando's return was a tightly kept secret. Orlando Bloom played the role of Will Turner in the last three films of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise. He was not seen in the 4th film, 2011's "On Stranger Tides."
In a Channel24 report, Bloom talked about his involvement in the latest venture, saying, "That whole experience of working with Johnny and (director) Gore Verbinski was really amazing for me. I had a great time working with Johnny, one of the reasons I jumped at the opportunity was because Johnny was involved."
Other cast members who will appear in the 5th part of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series are Geoffrey Rush, Kaya Scodelario, Brenton Thwaites, Javier Bardem and Kevin McNally.
Keira Knightley who played Orlando's character's love interest Elizabeth Swann, is certainly not appearing in the film. According to Channel24, she said, "No, I don't think so. It was an amazing point in my life, but it was a good five-year chunk. It was incredible, but I can't really imagine going back to it."
Johnny Depp came in costume as Jack Sparrow at Disney's D23 Expo in Anaheim to promote the film. He joined Walt Disney Pictures' president of production Sean Bailey onstage and the two proceded to entertain the crowd with a brief exchange of lines. Johnny stayed in-character as Jack and started throwing grapes to the audience. While he was being ushered off the stage, he exclaimed, "I came to sing you a song!" Finally, Bailey managed to get him off the stage and Jack (Johnny) gave a parting shot to the crowd "I didn't want to sing you a song anyway!"
"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" is scheduled to be released on June 7, 2017.
