Jon Jones Fight news: 'Bones' maintains Innocence on recent Drag Racing charges

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is facing another misdemeanor while he was behind the wheel of a car.

Last week, "Bones" was pulled over in Albuquerque, New Mexico, allegedly for drag racing. He was given five tickets by an officer, which in turn, the fighter vehemently protested against. A video of the said incident has spread online, showing a frustrated Jones cursing at the police officer, but eventually agreeing to sign the tickets.

On Tuesday, Jones was taken into custody for the said incident, mainly for probation violation for his previous cases. It is the third driving offense he was involved in in the last two years, the first one being a hit-and-run incident in April 2015 involving a pregnant woman.

This led to him being stripped of his title and being slapped with an indefinite suspension. Earlier this month, he was once again put on the spotlight after being caught driving without a license, registration and proof of insurance. He was then slapped with a 90-day suspension.

For his part, Jones maintained his innocence, as he adamantly denied that he was speeding and drag racing. He also apologized for his actions towards the police officer.

"I feel that police used a technicality to ticket me for drag racing, for simply revving my engine and acknowledging some of my local fans," Jones said in a statement (via The Guardian). "I regrettably said words to the police officer out of frustration, for which I apologize for, but I do feel this was excessive."

Jones is slated to face current champion Daniel Cormier as the headliners of UFC 197 on April 23rd, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The two men have a long-standing rift, which dates back to August 2014, when they were involved in an all-out brawl during a pre-fight media day.

Jones himself says that the recent incident would not be affecting his upcoming rematch with Cormier.
