Jose Canseco Accidentally Shoots Himself in the Hand, Tweets Photo of His Hand After Gun Accident
Former Major League Baseball player Jose Canseco was injured in an accidental shooting on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at his home.
According to CNN, Canseco was cleaning a gun when he accidentally shot himself in the left hand. His fiancée, model Leila Knight, was with him in his home when it happened and said that he was in the kitchen, cleaning his gun, when it fired.
"I heard the gun go off and saw his middle finger hanging by a string," said Knight in an interview with the Los Angeles Times. "It will either have to be amputated or have full reconstruction surgery." She also said that the doctors told Canseco that he will never regain full use of his hand.

Using Canseco's Twitter account, Knight posted an update on his condition. She wrote, "This is Leila. Thank you all for all your kind words and prayers. Jose is still in surgery and will be ok. Please pray for his finger!"
Knight followed the initial post with another tweet, this time using her own account. She wrote, "finally safe and sound with my love bug @JoseCanseco. So glad he's ok and soooo glad I was there when it happened thank God."
On Wednesday, Canseco took to Twitter and posted a picture of his injured hand.
"Hope I can keep my finger but grateful it wasn't something worse," he posted.
He added that Knight was taking care of him but he was unable to sleep. His fiancée took to Twitter again, this time to reassure him of her love no matter what happens.
Knight wrote, "Love you baby no matter how many fingers you have."
During his career from 1985 to 2001, Canseco played for the Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox, New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays. He won the American League Rookie of the Year award in 1986 and was the league MVP in 1988 while with the Oakland A's.
