'Journey' News: Game Coming to PS4
The multi-awarded video game "Journey" is coming to the PlayStation 4. The game was originally released for the PlayStation 3 in March 2012. Its developer, Thatgamecompany, also announced that the game will have an improved frame-rate of 60 frames per second, rather than 30 frames per second in the older version of the game, which looks much better viewed on 1080p. The PS4 version is scheduled for release sometime in the middle of 2015.
While there is a significant change in the frame-rate, TGC says that not much is going to be changed in terms of gameplay. "Journey" on PS4 will be still be the same single-player adventure game where the player controls a single robed figure as it travels across a desert. The main objective is to reach a mountain that is seen in the horizon.
One review of the game on IGN says that it "challenges traditional gaming conventions," allowing the player to connect emotionally to the game through minimalist but gorgeous visuals and equally compelling and emotional music. The robed figure can only communicate with other players whom they may meet along the journey through patterns of musical notes. Each player must learn to navigate the landscape and make their way towards the mountain.
In 2012, the PS3 version of the game won IGN's "Game of the Year" and it was also recognized the same by GameSpot. In 2013, it was the first video game whose soundtrack was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media, although it did not win.
According to a Wikipedia entry, various game reviews also praised "Journey" for the emotional experience of playing the game. One reviewer said that it made him feel a "wide range of emotions... wonder, fear, even sadness." Another one "praised the game's story for being open to the player's interpretation, leaving an ambiguity that drew him in."
The PS4 version will be available for free to those who already own the previous PS3 version of the game. Those who are buying the game for the first time will be able to get the two versions for the price of one.
