Julion Alvarez Dead? Death Hoax Goes Viral With CNN News Report

A shocking news report detailing the gruesome death of Mexican singer Julion Alvarez was reported Friday.

However, the story was proven to be a hoax as the site GrupoWallstreet.com is known to have done similar stories in the past. The website has released a number of false reports, all claiming the demise of celebrities such as Justin Bieber and Johnny Depp. Both of them are still alive.

The article, which was written in Spanish, was tagged as CNN, and contained the headline "Julion Alvarez Murdered Leaving a Restaurant."

The report goes on to detail that Alvarez allegedly received eight bullet wounds in the chest and two more in his head. It was also mentioned that he was killed by an armed group of gunmen, and state and military officials came to the scene of the crime where he was shot. A prosecutor from the attorney general's office, Carlos Alberto Navarro, allegedly said that six armed men in a Ford-type van did the drive-by shooting.

GruppoWallstreet also detailed how Alvarez said on numerous occasions that he knew the risk of his profession, and that the singer was allegedly inundated by death threats. The story takes a strange turn when it was mentioned that Alvarez' "death" was allegedly predicted by a psychic named Mhoni.

The website doesn't appear to have a disclaimer, and that GruppoWallstreet and its ilk makes a habit of publishing sensationalist stories to go viral, which generates revenue when users click and view ads on the page.

Fans of Alvarez can rest easy as the 31-year old singer is alive and well. The singer is known for revolutionizing regional Mexican music, and being one of the coaches of "The Voice: Mexico."
