'Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle' News, Release Date: Dwayne Johnson Explains How the Sequel Will Honor Robin Williams

"Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle," the upcoming sequel to 1995's "Jumanji," is set to premiere later this year. And, as part of its promotion, a new video has been released.

The video shows some cast interviews and footage from the highly anticipated film. According to Entertainment Weekly, the clip was unveiled at Stan Lee's Los Angeles Comic-Con on Saturday night.

The film follows four high school students who get sucked into a video game and turned into their chosen avatars. Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Jack Black, and Nick Jonas star in the sequel.

"In the original [film], 'Jumanji' came to our world. In this 'Jumanji,' we go to them," Johnson, who plays one of the avatars named Dr. Smolder Bravestone, said in the video.

Gillan also teased a lot of action sequences in store for fans, which was quite apparent in the trailer alone. In the film, Gillan plays one of the avatars named Ruby Roundhouse.

However, "Jumanji" is not just a regular video game. As producer Matt Tolmach previously revealed, the stakes are very real, and there is a chance the teens may not return to the real world.

Fans of the original "Jumanji" know that what made the film special is the late and great Robin Williams. And, while there may be some trepidation about the upcoming sequel, Johnson explained that "Welcome to the Jungle" will honor the award-winning comedian.

"We wanted to make a movie that encapsulates what the holiday spirit really means — the spirit of wonderment and discovering who you are. I have such a tremendous amount of love and reverence for the original movie and what Robin meant to my family. I loved it like the world loved it. We wanted to make sure the spirit of the original movie flowed through this continuation of the 'Jumanji' story," Johnson said.

"Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" will hit U.S. cinemas on Dec. 20.
