'Jurassic World 2' Casting News: Film Legend Geraldine Chaplin Joins Cast

Filming for the upcoming movie "Jurassic World 2" is officially underway, but the sequel to the financially and critically successful revival of the iconic dinosaur theme park film franchise still made room for the addition of a new cast member.

"Jurassic World 2" director J.A. Bayona recently took to Twitter to announce that his "good luck charm," Geraldine Chaplin, has joined the cast of the upcoming film sequel.

The daughter of legendary silent film comedian Charlie Chaplin has worked alongside Bayona in his three previous films such as "The Orphanage," "The Impossible," and "A Monster Calls." The actress also has an extensive amount of film credits including her father's movie "Limelight," the classic film "Doctor Zhivago," and Richard Attenborough's "Chaplin" in which she portrayed her own grandmother.

Chaplin will be joining returning cast members Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard in "Jurassic World 2." Other actors involved in the upcoming movie include Toby Jones, Rafe Spall, Justice Smith, Daniella Pineda, Ted Levine and James Cromwell.

In an interview with Coming Soon last December, Bayona revealed that the upcoming "Jurassic" movie will have a pseudo-political element, similar to the undertones of previous "Jurassic" film installments about animal exploitation and commercialization.

"Every story is different and you need to find the depth of every story and try to express it on the screen," Bayona told Coming Soon.

"The 'Jurassic World' sequel is a more collaborative filmmaker experience, not only with Colin Trevorrow, but also with Steven [Spielberg] and with Frank Marshall... But, at the same time, the way I face telling a story is to find something very personal. I think there will be plenty of myself also in the film," he added.

"Jurassic World 2" is scheduled to open in theaters on June 22, 2018.
