'Jurassic World' News: Indominus Rex Revealed at 2015 Toy Fair
"Jurassic World" will open on June 12, 2015 and although its cast line-up has been shared with the public, not much has been revealed about the movie's antagonists, the dinosaurs. Until Hasbro, during the recently concluded 2015 Toy Fair in New York City, gave a preview of what the movie's new predator will look like. It's called the Indominus Rex and it's a hybrid dinosaur created by genetic scientists in the "Jurassic World" theme park.
According to a report on Movie Pilot, this is the "best look" at the formidable creature so far. The official teaser trailer barely shows what the dinosaur will look like, so the toy version gives the public some clues as to the deadly abilities and characteristics of this hybrid monster.
The "Jurassic World" website describes it as 40 feet in height and can reach up to 30 miles per hour. The report also confirms that it is a creature that was genetically engineered inside to become part of the theme park's attractions, using genes from a variety of dinosaurs like Abelisaurus, Carnotaurus, Majungasaurus, Rugops and Giganotosaurus. It is also characterized with an "ultra-tough bony osteoderm" which may indicate how tough-skinned it is. It is also said to have "color-morphing skin."
The report also noted that the Indominus Rex had fully-articulated arms, unlike the small arms of the T-Rex, which gives it a better chance to escape any enclosure. The toy has all these features..
According to a report on Business Insider, other toys in the "Jurassic World" line up confirmed what the other dinosaurs in the movie will look like. Chris Pratt plays the trainer/handler of a three-dinosaur velociraptor action squad. His squad is composed of three raptors named Charlie, Delta and Echo. In the toy fair, Charlie is a green raptor, Delta is a brown raptor and Echo is an orange one.
The Indominus Rex toy is supposed to retail at $34.99 while a raptor is supposed to retail at $9.99. Both toys will be available in spring 2015.
