'Justice League' Cast News, Spoilers: Director Inspired By 'Seven Samurai'; Tyrese Gibson To Play Green Lantern?

Now that "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is in theaters, director Zack Snyder can turn his attention to the upcoming "Justice League," the film which was set up in the recently-released "Dawn of Justice."

Though "Justice League" won't be released until late 2017, Snyder is already dropping hints about the upcoming DC Extended Universe film.

In an interview with Yahoo! Movies U.K., the director spoke about which film inspires Batman's (Ben Affleck) quest in "Justice League" and gave a few updates on the film's progress. "Justice League" will bring together Batman, Superman (Henry Cavill), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), the Flash (Ezra Miller), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), and a yet-to-be-cast Green Lantern. Being that the iconic DC superheroes make up a formidable team of seven, it seems fitting that Snyder reportedly turned to the Akira Kurosawa classic "Seven Samurai" for inspiration while developing the upcoming superhero team-up film.

"I'm getting ready to start 'Justice League' on the 11th of April, so in like two weeks we start shooting," the director told Yahoo! Movies U.K., "and it's an intense, awesome, and gigantic undertaking because Bruce [Wayne] is having to go out and sort of 'Seven Samurai' the Justice League together, which is fun."

The Japanese masterpiece tells the story of an aged samurai who gathers six others to defend a village from a ruthless group of bandits. The epic adventure film has been loosely adapted numerous times and is regarded as a classic.

As Snyder's statement implies, Batman will eventually realize that he can't face the coming threat (Darkseid?) alone and must then unite the superheroes to fight a common foe.

"It's slightly monumental," Snyder said, "and at the same time they're starting to grapple with this coming threat."

Meanwhile, "Justice League" may have already found its Green Lantern in "Fast & Furious" actor Tyrese Gibson.

In an interview with veteran newsman Larry King on his "Larry King Now," Gibson said that he has already met with Warner Bros. to talk about the possibility of playing Green Lantern, the green-clad superhero, in "Justice League." He also hinted that he may have a shot at getting the role.

"I did meet with Warner Brothers, though," he told King, as quoted by ComicBook.com. "And… um… shoot me a prayer, Larry."

When the talk show host asked, "You got a shot?" the actor replied, "I do."

The tentatively-titled "Justice League: Part One" is scheduled to hit theaters Nov. 17, 2017.
