'Justice League' News, Release Date: Julian Jones Lewis Reveals Mystery Role in New Instagram Photo

Back in July, Warner Bros. confirmed that Welsh actor Julian Jones Lewis would join the cast of "Justice League" for a mystery role. For months since then, Lewis' role in the upcoming film has been under wraps. Earlier this week, however, the secret that the studio has long been trying to keep has finally been revealed.

Since Lewis joined the cast, there have been speculations about which role he might play in the upcoming film. Previously, he was rumored to be playing the ancient King of Atlantis, Atlan, as well as Darkseid, the villainous ruler of Apokolips and nephew of the film's main villain, Steppenwolf (Ciaran Hinds). It looks like fans' previous guesses weren't bad after all, as Lewis revealed yesterday that he would actually play King Atlan.

Over on Instagram, the actor posted a behind-the-scenes photo from "Justice League," showing himself in costume. While he did not explicitly state that he would play the King of Atlantis, his costume was more than enough to confirm his role.

A few days before he posted that photo, filmmaker Zack Snyder also posted a photo featuring Jones' character in the background. Lewis cropped the same photo and zoomed it in, offering fans a closer look at his identity in the film.

The photo shows the actor wearing almost the same costume as Aquaman, wielding a trident and sporting a long beard. According to reports, the photo offers a behind-the-scenes look at the film's ancient prologue sequence, which features the New God's initial battle with Earth thousands of years before the events in "Justice League."

There are speculations that since Jones will play the Atlantean king in a flashback scene, he might not appear anytime in the present day, although fans might still see his character's statue in the modern Atlantis.

"Justice League" is set to hit theaters on Nov. 17.
