Justin Bieber Sets Music Video Record
Pop star Justin Bieber has set a new major music record as the first artist to accumulate 10 billion views on the multinational video hosting service Vevo.
The website announced the milestone on Thursday, March 24, with a congratulatory Twitter post and a short clip featuring the "Love Yourself" singer's most popular music videos. The clip was set to the Canadian singer/songwriter's breakout song "Baby."
"This is huge: @justinbieber just became the first artist to reach 10 BILLION views on @Vevo! #Bieber10BOnVevo," the company tweeted.
Bieber's new major achievement follows the release of his latest album "Purpose," which has spawned such hit songs as "Sorry," "Where Are Ü Now," "What Do You Mean?" and "I'll Show You." The music video for "Sorry" has racked up more than a billion views on Vevo.
According to Vevo, Bieber was able to reach more than 10 billion views from all over the world in just over six years. Many of the singer's popular music videos have view counts that currently number in the hundreds of millions. The video for "Purpose" track "Love Yourself" has garnered more than 450 million views. The massively popular "Baby" music video, which was released in 2010, has more than 1.3 billion views. One of Bieber's latest singles, "What Do You Mean?," has more than 880 million.
According to Billboard, should the view count for "What Do You Mean?" exceed a billion, Bieber will set another Vevo record as the only artist with three music videos with over a billion views.
The only other artists to have two videos with more than a billion views each are fellow pop stars Taylor Swift and Katy Perry.
The 22-year-old is no stranger to breaking records on Vevo. In 2014, the music video for "Baby" hit the billion-view mark, making the singer the youngest artist to accumulate a billion views on the video service.
