Justin Bieber's 'Purpose' Defeats One Direction's 'Made in the A.M.'
After much anticipation, Justin Bieber's album "Purpose" has already been released, topping the Billboard charts.
It was reported that Bieber's latest album "Purpose" will soon be making its way to the number 1 spot on this week's Billboard 200 chart. "Purpose" was expected to only sell 300,000 copies in its first week. However, it looks as though the album will be able to hit 450,000 copies by the end of the week. Including streaming and other sources, the album is expected to reach 525,000 units of sales.
With that, Justin Bieber is expected to beat out another album that was released this week. Also estimated for just a number of 300,000 copies sold for its first week, One Direction's "Made in the A.M." is expected to debut as the number 2 album on the Billboard charts. "Made in the A.M." was also able to reach around 425,000 copies sold. Including streaming and other sources, it will all amount to around 475,000.
Meanwhile, both artists could hold the title for the first time that two albums were able to sell 400,000 in the same week, ever since 2007. It was reported that their marketing teams have been working hard to produce leverage for the albums. It was stated that fans of "One Direction" had to purchase an album in order to obtain a ticket for "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." As for Justin Bieber, they put on three shows at the Staples Center in Los Angeles when the album was dropped. They utilized the shows by allowing fans to pay an extra $4 on their $18 ticket to buy an album.
This will also make "Purpose" Justin Bieber's sixth album to reach number 1 on the Billboard charts. The most previous Justin Bieber album to reach number 1 was "Believe," which shelled out a total of 374,000 copies sold. This would also make "Purpose" 2015's best-selling album for its first week. This means that it will take the title from Drake's album "If You're Reading This It's Too Late."
