Their two main goals are to gather as much of the Juseki, or the twelve black jewels, as they can and be the last warrior standing at the end of the war. The ultimate price of the battle is the fulfillment of a wish — any wish at all that he or she can think of.

The upcoming series is based on a Japanese light novel written by NisiOisiN and illustrated by Hikaru Nakamura. It was first published in 2015 by Shueisha and has been licensed by Viz Media for a hardcover release in October of this year.

Graphinica is adapting the novel into anime under the direction of Naoto Hosoda, who has previously worked on "The Devil Is a Part-Timer!" The series composition is done by Sadayuki Murai with character designs by Chikashi Kadekaru and music composition by Go Shiina for Avex Pictures.

NisiOisiN and Nakamura have also collaborated on a one-shot manga titled "Doushitemo Kanaetai Tatta Hitotsu no Negai to Wari to Soudemonai 99 no Negai" (The Only Wish I Want Granted by all Means Is Comparable to 99 Wishes)," which was published in Shueisha's Young Jump magazine in January 2015. This one-shot is reportedly connected to light novel.

"Juuni Taisen: Zodiac War" premieres on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at 11:30 p.m. JST on AT-X and late night at 2:30 a.m. JST on MBS. It will also air on Tokyo MX starting on Thursday, Oct. 5, midnight JST and on BS11 late night at 12:30 a.m. JST.
