Kai, Homeless Hitchhiker, 'Smashed' Fresno Madman With Hatchet, Saved Lives (VIDEO)

Kai, a homeless hitchhiker, just happened to be in the right place at the right time to stop a madman from running over people with his car. The mononymous hitchhiker "smashed" Jett Simmons McBride with a hatchet when he realized the man was attacking passerby in Fresno, Calif.

Kai had been hitchhiking in McBride's vehicle when the incident occurred. The 54-year-old man began claiming he was Jesus Christ and said that getting rid of African-Americans would save the world. McBride then saw a PG&E work crew, and calmly hit a black worker with his utility truck. When witnesses tried to help the man, McBride fought them off.

"He just kept saying he's Jesus Christ and he's going to save all of us," Tanya Baker, who was attacked by McBride, told KMPH News. "But we have to get— he used the n-word, meaning black people— he said we need to get him off the earth."

Kai, who realized the 6'4", 290-pound McBride could "snap a woman's neck like a pencil stick," took matters into his own hands.

"So I f------ ran up behind him with a hatchet and— smash, smash, suh-mash!" the bandana-clad nomad told a local news crew, miming his actions. McBride was not knocked out, however, and started following Kai after being knocked down. Witnesses told Kai soon after that the man was masturbating in the street.

Police showed up to the scene and arrested McBride for suspicion of ramming the car into the worker, and he was booked into Fresno County Jail Saturday on suspicion of attempted murder. His bail has been set at $1 million.

The PG&E worker, who was hospitalized after the attack, had two broken legs, but survived.

Kai, the mysterious hitchhiker, had a message for possible viewers before giving his interview.

"No matter what you've done, you deserve respect, even if you make mistakes … it doesn't matter your looks, skills, or age, or size or anything, you're worthwhile. No one can ever take that away from you," said the traveling surfer.

When asked if he would do what he did again, he claimed that he only wished he had done it sooner.

"If I hadn't of done that, he would have killed more people," said Kai.

Kai's eccentric interview after the incident has since gone viral, getting 2.3 million hits on YouTube since being uploaded less than a week ago. To see the interview, click below (WARNING: Adult language, profanity, adult themes, and violence present in clip).
