Karen Gillan's Nebula Character Will Return In 'Guardians of the Galaxy 2'
Karen Gillan, who played Nebula in "Guardians of the Galaxy," has been confirmed to reprise her role as the mercenary pirate in the sequel.
"Guardians of the Galaxy 2" is due to start filming at the Pinewood Studios in Atlanta on February 2016, and audiences will see the return of Karen Gillan, who played Thanos' adopted daughter and loyal lieutenant, Nebula, in her evil and sadistic role as the blue-skinned villain.
The last audiences saw of the fierce female antagonist, Nebula escaped on a spaceship after the loss of an arm and a resounding defeat after a battle with Gamora (played by Zoe Saldana).
James Gunn, the film's returning screenwriter and director released the news during a Q&A on the live streaming video app, Periscope, saying they may have found a way for Gillan to play Nebula without having to shave her head like she did in the first film.
The script for the sequel is currently in progress, and Gunn has revealed he is 70 pages in after his pitch was met with positive acceptance from Marvel. Gunn says he has completed the treatment and outline for the script, and the next step will be to start on the screenplay within the week.
Fans of the "Guardians of the Galaxy" franchise should expect the sequel to take on a different tone from the first movie. Lee Pace, who played the villainous Ronan in the first film, won't be returning after having been killed off in the previous film.
"Guardians of the Galaxy 2" will also see the return of Chris Pratt as Peter Quill the Star-Lord, Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, and Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer. The film is is due to hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
