Karl Roy Dies of Cardiac Arrest, Remembered as Iconic Filipino Rock Singer
New reports have confirmed that Karl Roy, a Philippine rock singer, passed away on Tuesday. Roy was remembered as a rock legend to many who lived in the Philippines.
Kary Roy was a member of the band Advent Call, P.O.T. and was also the front man and vocals for Kapatid. Kapatid was Roy's most recent project; the band released their first album in 2003, with a second following in 2006 and had been working towards a third album release.
According to Inquirer Entertainment, Roy died at 1 a.m. on Tuesday morning after suffering from cardiac arrest. Roy was rumored to live a very "rock & roll" lifestyle which some have attributed to his early death. In 2007, Roy suffered from a stroke.
Roy was a rock icon in his hometown, Manilla and throughout much of the Philippines as well. Many fans took to the star's Facebook to wish him peace.
"Rest in peace Mentor Karl, your music still remains in our heart," Romulo Bernardo wrote.
"All though I didn't meet him in persol [sic].. His music and his saga and his story will inspire me forever. We all have to tip our hat to him. cuz his [sic] one of the few reason why OPM Rock scene is so much alive today .. . and inspire others to play guitar and form a band," Dingdong Labrador wrote. "Farewell sir Karl Roy of kapatid:) may you rest in peace we lost another beacon of light."
According to Pam Lunar, Roy's manager, Roy had been in the hospital's Intensive Care Unit since Sunday. Roy's sister Kathryn confirmed her brother's death on Facebook.
"It is with deepest sadness that I share the news of Karl's passing. He was called Home today at 1:01 a.m. Manila time (Tuesday, March 13th), surrounded by those who loved him most – mommy, Keith, Kevin, Krys, his daughter Arianna, and our cousin Jack (Roy-Duavit)," she posted.
"Please continue to pray for Karl. He brought so much joy to others but, unfortunately, did not have enough of it in this life. He's in a better place now, with Lolo Pepe, Lola Conching and Daddy," she added.
