Kate Upton Thanks Editor Carine Roitfeld for First Tasteful, Fully Clothed Cover
Kate Upton was grateful for her cover on CR Fashion Book and its creator, Carine Roitfeld for the rare opportunity: for the first time in her career, the 21-year-old model was featured wearing clothes.
Kate Upton's acknowledgement of Roitfeld's choice came during the Fashion Group International Night of Stars gala in New York Tuesday. Upton was there to honor the former Vogue Paris editor-in-chief with a Media Award while wearing a red claret gown when she made the quip.
"She was the first editor who put me on the cover actually wearing clothing," Upton said of the cover, which debuted last year.
Upton first found fame from an April 2011 video of her doing the "dougie" dance at a Los Angeles Clippers game, which went viral on YouTube. The next year, she appeared in a "Cat Daddy" video, which also went viral. Her fame only increased with her 2012 and 2013 Sports Illustrated covers, the latter of which debuted on the "Late Show with David Letterman."
She has also appeared on various fashion magazine covers in little clothing, like Vogue, Cosmopolitan, GQ and Esquire.
Currently, Upton is partnered with Gillette to promote Movember, in which men grow a mustache for a month and ask others to donate to men's health charities.
"I think that it's fun. It's a great month and it's for a good cause," Upton said on "Good Morning America." "You have to have that excuse [to grow a mustache]. You can try something new."
Although Upton said she's no mustache expert- "I've never had a mustache," she joked- she did cite some sources for inspiration: "Jeopardy!" host Alex Trebek, Lionel Richie and the legendary mustache of Tom Selleck were some of her favorites.
