KDDI And Kyocera Launches 'Digno Rafre,' Deemed As World's First 'Soap-Proof' Phone
When it comes to smartphones, mobile companies race to come up with unique and fresh designs. From waterproofing to fingerprint scanners to triple-SIM support, these innovations are making its way out to the market. As for Japanese electronics company Kyocera and Japanese telecommunications operator KDDI, their latest venture is releasing the world's first soap-proof phone dubbed as the Digno Rafre.
According to a report by GSM Arena, the new smartphone is made to resist hot water at 43 degrees. This means that during winter, users can give their device a nice, warm bath. And since it is IP58 certified, the Digno Rafre is protected from limited dust ingress and long-term immersion up to a specified pressure.
Daily Mail detailed that the unique handset would be perfect for children or people who have the tendency to be clumsy and accidentally drop their phones because the device can easily be cleaned. There are studies that show that mobile devices gather germs including Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus mycoides, from hands, bathrooms and public transport.
A promo video of the smartphone was released in Japan and it showed a demo of the device being washed with foam soap and water. It also showed that it will also come with a rubber ducky dock which can float in the bathtub.
In terms of its specs, Mobipicker said that the unique handset is reported to sport a 5-inch 720p display. It is coated with Dragontrail X glass for protection and is also designed to be shock-proof (MIL-SSTD-810G). It is equipped with 2 GB of RAM with 16 GB of expandable storage via microSD card. It will be attached with 13-megapixel rear camera and will be powered with 3,000 mAh battery.
Its operating system is Android 5.1 Lollipop. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, WiMAX and VoLTE. It also features Kyocera's Smart Sonic Receiver which can produce 'sound without speaker,' making the handset more durable. Interested buyers can choose from Navy Blue, Cashmere White and Coral Pink. Unfortunately, Digno Rafre will be exclusive to Japan.
