Kendrick Lamar Finally Addresses New Album Release Time Frame

Rapper Kendrick Lamar finally addressed the time frame for the release of his highly anticipated sophomore album at KMEL's Summer Jam event this month.

He refused to give an actual release date for the project, but did leak out one important detail when asked about it.

"I couldn't say. I couldn't give a false pretense on where I'm at," he said. "I can't even give a date or a time, but it's going to be an event. It's in the process. We cooking."

The head of Lamar's label Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith recently said that his album could launch as early as September of this year.

Kendrick Lamar sat down with MTV in November of last year to discuss his thoughts on releasing his next album where he confirmed that the follow up to his 2012 smash good kid, m.A.A.d city might take a little longer to create than some other artists' sophomore efforts.

"I'm letting the inspiration come for sure," said Lamar in the interview. "If I knock myself into the wall, I'll probably be out the game for a minute because it's stressful trying to be creative rather than letting creativity come to you and being inspired by something."

He also touched on the importance of challenging himself by not listening to his first album, which is regarded by some as a classic in the hip-hop community.

"Man if I wasn't onstage, I probably wouldn't be listening to it [after] the day I put it out," he said. "I don't like to get stuck in doing something [so] that once I do move on and do my next joint, I don't want to get caught up in sounding the same or being locked in to what I've done already. I always want to elevate myself and challenge myself."
