Kerry Washington Photoshopping Issue Update: Actress Taps Adweek for Altered Cover Photo
Following the release of her story for Adweek, Kerry Washington expressed her sentiments about the magazine's decision to Photoshop her image for the cover.
In an Instagram post on Tuesday, Washington said, "It felt strange to look at a picture of myself that is so different from what I look like when I look in the mirror. It's an unfortunate feeling."
The "Scandal" star went on to explain that she was "excited and thrilled" when the magazine called on her for its cover. She noted that she considers it an honor and a privilege to be part of a major outlet's pages and Adweek is not an exception. While she loves the outlet, she pointed out that addressing issues about her Photoshopped images is worth her time.
The 39-year-old actress also reminded fans of how her photos were altered in the past and Adweek isn't the first one to introduce her to the trend. Cosmopolitan notes that InStyle's March 2015 cover, as well as the front page of Lucky's December 2013 issue, displayed a different view of the Hollywood star.
Despite her disappointment about the unrecognizable woman in a fluffy black and white dress in Adweek's April 2016 cover, Washington said she is "proud" of the article and encouraged her fans to grab a copy.
Editorial director Jim Cooper then took to Twitter and said he was glad the actress was pleased with the article though he felt sad that she showed disappointment over the front page photo.
Cooper also released a statement to Entertainment Tonight, clarifying that the team only applied small changes to make up for the desired look of the cover's design. He explained that they didn't mean to show any disrespect for the acclaimed star. He concluded the statement with appreciation for Washington's honesty.
Washington stars as Olivia Pope in the hit ABC series "Scandal," which is now on its fifth season.
