'Kevin Can Wait' Bashing: Erinn Hayes Knows Scientology Group Behind Calls for Boycott
The bashing of "Kevin Can Wait" continues in season 2 following Erinn Hayes' firing. Fans still can't accept that the show killed off her character, Donna, to accommodate Leah Remini's character, Vanessa.
Disappointed fans have been posting their complaints about "Kevin Can Wait" on social media every week. Some have been calling for a boycott since season 2 premiered in September.
Hayes reportedly liked the Twitter posts from angry fans who said they won't be watching the show anymore. A viewer, however, asked the actress if she's aware that the people bashing "Kevin Can Wait" are Scientologists who have an agenda against Remini, a former member of their church.
"[I'm] very aware and don't condone any of the bashing," Hayes replied. "Watch the show or don't, but I find the personal attack's very ugly."
A few weeks back, Hayes also made a plea on social media to stop attacking Remini. She told fans she appreciates their support for her but she hopes the condemning will stop.
"It's ugly, I never asked for it and let's be above it," Hayes said.
Remini, who landed a permanent role on "Kevin Can Wait" season 2 after a guest appearance last season, claimed that Scientologists treat her as the enemy ever since she denounced her former religion. She also exposed some of its alleged criminal and illegal activities on her A&E series "Scientology and the Aftermath," which has indeed come under attack.
A member of the Scientology church, however, denied that they are behind the "Kevin Can Wait" bashing and boycott. While the group has been critical of Remini's anti-Scientology documentary, the spokesperson clarified that they are not the ones posting messages against "Kevin Can Wait."
"Kevin Can Wait" star and executive producer Kevin James explained that firing Hayes was the only option for the show to move forward. They originally wanted his character as a single father and now they can finally do this after killing off Hayes' character.
"Kevin Can Wait" airs Monday nights at 8:00 EST on CBS.
