Kevin Durant Apologizes After Criticizing OKC Coach and Calling Former Teammates 'Cats'

Kevin Durant issued an apology after criticizing former coach Billy Donovan on Twitter and referring to the players of the Oklahoma City Thunder as "cats."

The tweets have ignited speculation that he might have been using private accounts to answer social media messages in a much different tone than how he would if he was using his official Twitter page with almost 17 million followers.

Shortly after sending a couple of controversial tweets, Durant appeared at TechCrunch's event in San Francisco earlier this week where he said, "I do regret using my former coach's name and the former organization I played for."

The incident started when one of Durant's fans asked him on his verified Twitter page if he had any reason for leaving the Thunder other than just wanting to win a championship.

Oddly, Durant replied from a third person's perspective and said: "He didn't like the organization or playing for Billy Donovan. His roster wasn't that good, it was just him and russ."

He then followed it up with another message that mocked the Oklahoma City players and said: "Imagine taking russ off that team, see how bad they were. Kd can't win a championship with those cats."

Durant later on called his actions "childish" and "idiotic" and said, "I apologize for that."

However, the damage was done, and one of his former teammates, Enes Kanter, did not seem ready yet to take KD's apology. Kanter went on his own Twitter page to address Durant's posts and said: "Those cats, I call them FAMILY."

Kanter also told Sports Illustrated that for him, Durant's apology was "too late." He added: "I'm not angry. It's just really sad."

He then recalled: "When he was here, this organization and these fans, this whole state, gave him everything he asked for, everything he wanted. The cooks, the chefs, the massage therapists, the coaches, players – everything – just (to make) sure he is okay and getting what he wanted to get."

The whole Twitter incident led fans to start a Reddit thread where many agreed KD had been using private or secret accounts to directly respond to fans' messages and defend himself from criticisms – but with a different identity – both on Twitter and Instagram.

In the Reddit thread, fans found out that Durant's brother had posted one photo where a private, less-followed Instagram account – formerly named @quiresultan – was tagged.

After his controversial tweets against OKC made headlines, the said Instagram page was untagged from his brother's photo, its username changed to a very random handle @shanghainoon12344, and reportedly deleted several comments it posted online.
