Kia Sorento Recall 2013: Nearly 10,000 SUVs Recalled Due to Front Axle Failure
A Kia Sorento recall has been made, after makers discovered that the vehicle's front axle was susceptible to fail, according to reports.
The Kia recall will affect nearly 10,000 SUVs throughout North America, with all of the models affected having 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engines.
The recalled vehicles also have a front wheel drive feature, and were built between Jan. 7 and March 12, 2013.
The recall came on the same day that Hyundai also announced their own recall for its Santa Fe Sport SUV.
In that case the Hyundai recall involved the 2013 Santa Fe Sport model with the same 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine. The affected models were built between July 11, 2012 and March 12, 2013.
Both Kia and Hyundai announced that the recall focused on problems connected with the right axle drive shaft, which has been found to be susceptible to crack, which can ultimately lead to it failing.
If the issue took place while the vehicle is in motion, experts have said the vehicle could simply lose power, however, it is happens when the car is in a parked position, it could lead to the vehicle rolling away.
There have been no reports of any crashes or injuries related to the issue, however, and the recall appears to be a precautionary measure.
