Kim Kardashian Divorce: Star to Return Wedding Presents?

It's no secret Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries are getting divorced just 72 days after they were married, and now many are speculating about what will happen to their wedding gifts.

Kardashian had previously stated in an interview that she will be donating around $200,000 to the Dream Foundation, but some people feel making a donation off of other's gifts is "inappropriate."

"The gifts should be returned to the givers if the wedding is dissolved within a short timeframe like hers was," author of Emily Post's Etiquette 18th Edition, Lizzie Post, told PEOPLE.

"I don't want to come across as saying that charity wouldn't be a great way to handle it. It's just that in that case, you're making a charitable donation on someone else's behalf under your name," she added.

Sources close to the former couple said they may now give the gifts back as well as follow through with the original donation.

"Even if she donates ... in the name of the sender, that's inappropriate, too, because then you're making a donation and you don't know how the person feels about the charity," said Thomas W. Rollerson of ABC News.

The star expressed her sorrow about the wedding through a message to her fans on her website Tuesday.

In the statement Kardashian said she "married for love" and "would not have spent so much time on something just for a TV show," although she admits to getting "caught up" in all the attention surrounding the show.

The star takes "full responsibility" for her actions and said the wedding was never the fairy tale she "had so badly hoped for."

"When I probably should have ended my relationship, I didn't know how to and I didn't want to disappoint a lot of people," she wrote. "I want a family and babies and a real life so badly that maybe I rushed into something too soon."

The pair dated for nine months before marrying in August, with a televised two-hour ceremony special on E!

TMZ reported yesterday that the star was struggling over making the decision to divorce.
They also reported she spent the entire week crying before she filed the documents, changing her mind several times because she wasn't 100 percent sure the marriage couldn't be salvaged.

One of Kardashian's friends told the gossip site she finalized the decision after learning Humphries hired a Hollywood publicist to work on his image, angrily saying, "He's not in (expletive) Hollywood. He plays sports."

The basketball player told reporters he was willing to do whatever it takes to repair his broken marriage. "I'm committed to this marriage and everything this covenant represents," he said.

He continued, "I love my wife and am devastated to learn she filed for divorce...I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make it work."

Friend's of the reality star told TMZ they thought Humphries was lying when he said all he wanted was a nice life with her in Minnesota, and that now the marriage is over he's "chasing fame."

They say she was put off by his persistence to keep their connection going even if they divorced. Humphries wanted to brand his name, and try to get deals for cologne, nightclub appearances, and other merchandise.

The divorce was made official yesterday with TMZ breaking the story. One of the main reasons for the split was that Humphries wanted to live in Minnesota with his wife.

Kardashian did not want to leave Hollywood because of her career, spelling the end of their marriage.
