Kindle Fire HD 8.9 Price Drops to $100, Find Out Where
The Kindle Fire HD 8.9 price has dropped to $199 on Amazon.
The online retailer is now offering the 32GB version of the device for $100 off the regular sticker. This is a certified refurbished model which means that someone owned it and sent it back to the company to be fixed. It comes with a one-year warrantee. This sale is available as a father's day promotion and will most likely end next week.
This model was released before the current HDX version. Even though it's a bit old, it still packs some pretty impressive specs for a tablet device. The Kindle Fire line runs a heavily customized version of Android software, however, custom ROMs can be used to make it more of a pure Android tablet.
Amazon unveiled the Kindle Fire HD 7 and 8.9 at a press conference towards the end of 2012.
This device is the successor to the original Kindle Fire tablet and sports an 8.9-inch screen with 1920 x 1200 pixels resolution and 254 PPI. The Kindle Fire HD is also be capable of in-plane switch and Amazon promises that it is 40 percent faster than the original thanks to its 1.5GHz TI OMAP 4470 processor.
The 7-inch version is slightly less powerful with a display that has a 1280 x 800 resolution and a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor.
Amazon also stated that the device's MIMO antenna allows it to retrieve content at a rate that is 41 percent faster than the new Google Nexus 7 or iPad.
It also features Dolby Digital, which brings a dual speaker system as opposed to the singular speaker found on the iPad. The Kindle Fire HD battery lasts longer and the tablet starts with 1GB RAM.
