'Kingdom Hearts III' Release Date, News: 'Kingdom Hearts' Not Ending Soon, Game's Creator Reveals

Although Square Enix has yet to officially announce a release date for the much-anticipated game "Kingdom Hearts III," it is speculated that the action role-playing game could be made available in 2017. The "Kingdom Hearts" video game series could also be extended beyond the upcoming third installment.

In a recent interview with Now Gamer, "Kingdom Hearts" creator and director Tetsuya Nomura admitted that he hasn't felt pressure from Disney to keep the video game franchise going forever. He also said that how long the franchise goes on depends on how long he can keep creating for the game series.

"The discussion of the end of 'Kingdom Hearts' has never come up between me and Disney, so I don't know what their intentions are," Nomura said. "But while creating 'Kingdom Hearts,' with each generation I think to myself, 'This should be something that can't be accomplished by just Disney.' It has to be something uniquely 'Kingdom Hearts.' So it's a matter of how long can I keep creating for 'Kingdom Hearts'!"

When asked about whether or not "Kingdom Hearts III" will introduce a third playable character, just as "Kingdom Hearts II" introduced a second, the video game artist gave a very vague answer with the subtlest of hints. "It's a secret," Nomura said, "but by saying that we imply that maybe something's going on. We can't disclose anything but, maybe, something will happen there."

Meanwhile, GameInformer reports that the new locations included in the forthcoming game are "Tangled," "Big Hero 6," "Twilight Town," "Hercules," and "Mysterious Tower."

Sora (voiced by Haley Joel Osment) returns as the proganist in "Kingdom Hearts III." He will once again be joined by Riku, Goofy, Donald Duck, King Mickey, Master Eraqus, and Master Xehanort. Disney characters such as Baymax from "Big Hero 6" and Rapunzel from "Tangled" will be included in the third installment.
