'Kong: Skull Island' Adds John Goodman in Cast, New Plot Details Revealed
The iconic giant movie monster King Kong is coming back to the big screen soon. First created in 1993, followed by a remake in 2005, a prequel movie titled "Kong: Skull Island" will be crashing through movie theaters by the year 2017.
The cast members of the movie have already been revealed but the latest addition to the list is "Roseanne" and "The Flintstones" star, John Goodman. According to The Movie Network, the award-winning actor will play the role of Randa, a government official who initiates and leads the expedition to the mysterious Skull Island where the giant ape King Kong lives along with other fantastical creatures.
He will be joining other big names in the industry like Tom Hiddleston, John. C. Reily, Samuel Jackson, Brie Larson and "Straight Outta Compton" alums Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell. Reports say that Michael Keaton and J.K. Simmons were part of the cast but had to back out due to schedule conflicts.
Nola cited that "The Kings of Summer" director Jordan Vogt-Roberts has been asked to helm the film, which has already been moved by production house Legendary Pictures from Universal to Warner Bros. just last month. This is in line with the reason that perhaps a King Kong-Godzilla crossover battle might happen sometime in the future.
Plot details of the prequel is still scarce but Cinema Blend revealed that the story will follow a man, played by Hiddleston, who goes on a journey to a mystical island where the King of the Apes lives. He agrees to travel to the island after his brother got stranded there in search for a mythical serum that can cure all diseases. Moreover, Deadline stated that "the story is said to honor the King Kong lore but in a different time period."
Production is estimated to start late this year or early 2016 in Hawaii, with a release date slated for March 2017.
