Kristen Bell News: Actress Talks Battle with Anxiety and Depression
For the past years, Hollywood stars have talked about their personal battles and recently, Kristen Bell has joined the growing number of celebrities opening up about anxiety and depression.
In a recent interview with Off Camera's Sam Jones, the "Frozen" star advised people who may be fighting the same battles as hers to never be ashamed to ask help when needed. She mentioned that the world will immediately tag someone asking for a serotonin inhibitor as "crazy," but for Bell, there's is nothing more important than getting a prescription when necessary.
"If you do decide to go on a prescription to help yourself, understand that the world wants to shame you for that, but in the medical community, you would never deny a diabetic his insulin," she explained.
According to People, the 35-year-old actress also revealed in the interview that her anxiety and depression started when she was young. Her grandmother suffered from the consequences of binge drinking, and her own mother told her about a possible susceptibility to "serotonin imbalance."
MTV News further reports that Bell was aware of her popularity in high school. However, the need to always fit in the circle made her go through changes that resulted to her emotional instability. Just like many teenagers seeking for approval from their peers, Bell changed her interests so she can adjust with what her friends preferred. "I didn't really realize until I was in my 30s that I had sort of changed for everybody," she said.
Unlike many others who started taking medicine for their emotional conditions, Bell started when she was young. According to U.S. Weekly, the singer isn't ashamed at all that she started taking in prescription when she was "really young" since it was her mother who advised her to get treatment.
Bell shares two daughters with Dax Shepard and will appear in the upcoming film "Bad Moms" alongside Mila Kunis and Kathryn Hahn among others. The film is set to hit theaters on July 29, 2016.
