La Toya Jackson Says Family Learned About Janet's Marriage in Media

Janet Jackson's family learned about her marriage to billionaire businessman Wissam Al Mana the same way that the general public did- in the media.

La Toya Jackson, the 56-year-old entertainer, television personality and sister of Janet, recently revealed that she learned about her sibling's nuptials in the news.

"You know what? I didn't know that Jan was married until I heard it in the media," Jackson said during a recent promotional luncheon, according to Essence.com reports. "It's true! Most of the family members-no one really knew. Not at all. You'd be surprised how you'd find out things in the media."

La Toya has a new reality television show on OWN networks titled "Life With La Toya" which will premiere April 13 and recently appeared on Celebrity Apprentice. However, she seemed to believe that the way she found out about Janet's marriage was normal.

"I know that in my family a lot of times you keep things private because you don't want anybody to know," she explained in an Essence.com report. "Nobody knew, really. I have not met him at all."

Although Jackson did not hear about her sister's marriage firsthand, she insisted that everything was fine with her siblings.

"It'll be fine! When it's there, it's fine," Jackson said in the Essence.com report. "I don't know what it is, but everything's fine!"

Janet, the-46-year-old Grammy award-winning singer and actress took to her website, janetjackson.com, to announce that she and Al Mana have been married since 2012 and denies reports that they spent an extravagant amount of money on their ceremony.

"Last year we were married in a quiet, private, and beautiful ceremony," the note on Jackson's website titled "Wissam and Janet Happily Married" read earlier this year. "We would appreciate that our privacy is respected and that we are allowed this time for celebration and joy. With love, Wissam and Janet."
