Lady Gaga Reveals Battle With Fibromyalgia in New Netflix Documentary
Lady Gaga recently revealed she has fibromyalgia, a chronic illness that causes pain all over the body.
Gaga, 31, made the announcement about her illness on Twitter earlier this week. She shared with fans that details about her fibromyalgia will be seen on her new documentary titled "Five Foot Two." In the film set to be aired on Netflix, Gaga offers fans a behind-the-scenes look at her music career as well as her personal life.
Gaga first announced her upcoming documentary in August. Slated for a premiere this fall, the film follows Gaga over eight months as she works on her 2016 studio album "Joanne." It also offers footages of the singer as she spends time with her close family and friends.
The "Born This Way" songstress has released multiple teaser clips on Instagram and Twitter since. One of them shows her at a doctor's office while discussing her condition with a physician.
"So, phase one, let's try to get you out of this intense pain that's in your face where you feel like you're running from a tiger all the time," the doctor tells Gaga. "I know there's a component of psych that Dr. Modeer is working on. Phase two, let's try to get the muscles to reeducate. Phase three we'll try to get the blood spinning to try to cause regeneration."
CNN notes that fibromyalgia is a chronic musculoskeletal disease. Since the illness causes pain to spread throughout the body, patients usually feel sleep disturbances, recurrent headaches, extreme fatigue and depression.
Speaking about her health struggles at the Toronto Film Festival, Gaga said there is also a good side to her condition. "It's hard," Gaga shared. "But it's liberating, too."
"Five Foot Two" officially premieres Friday, Sept. 22, on Netflix.
