Lamborghini Terzo Millenio Concept Specs News: All-Electric Super Sports Car Revealed

Lamborghini has unveiled the Terzo Millenio, an all-electric concept vehicle developed in collaboration with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). It previews the Italian automaker's vision of what super sports cars will be in the future.

"We are embracing what is impossible today to craft the realities of tomorrow. Lamborghini must always create the dreams of the next generation," said Lamborghini president and CEO Stefano Domenicali during the reveal of the Terzo Millenio at EmTech 2017 on Monday, Nov. 6.

In order to create a next-generation sports car, Lamborghini focused on four areas: Energy, Innovation in Materials, Powertrain and Vehicle Architecture, and Sound and Emotion.

In terms of energy, Lamborghini noted the importance of veering away from gasoline engines to electric systems. However, the batteries used by today's hybrids do not seem to be enough. Thus, the automaker and MIT worked on developing an innovative supercapacitor that is power-oriented and symmetrical. It is touted to "close the gap with conventional batteries in terms of energy density, preserving an outstanding power density," according to the automaker.

Another innovative feature of the Terzo Millenio is the integration of energy storage technology into its carbon fiber body and structures. The chassis will potentially be able to heal itself from cracks and damages sustained after an accident.

As for the design language, the Terzo Millenio embodies Lamborghini's classic DNA but with futuristic-looking components, as evidenced by the aerodynamic holes in the body and a windshield that extends to the hood. The overall design of the concept vehicle takes into consideration the electric motors and its ability to send torque directly to the wheels.

Given all these considerations — from aerodynamics to architecture — the Terzo Millenio is able to perfect the flow of the wind stream. So, despite being electrified, Lamborghini's new concept vehicle will still be able to generate an audible sound, as what is expected from all supercars.
