'Land of the Lustrous' Episode 2 Spoilers: Can Phos Convince Cinnabar to Leave the Night?

Two jewel-based, gender-less beings may be on their way to finding out their true purpose on the Japanese action-fantasy series, "Houseki no Kuni (Land of the Lustrous)." But first, can Phosphophyllite (Phos) convince the reserved, lone wolf Cinnabar to come with them?

The premiere episode introduced viewers to a land inhabited by a race of jewel-based beings whose purposes are set based on their hardness. These beings are constantly being hunted by their moon-based enemies known as the Lunarians, who seek to harvest them for jewelry.

But while the stronger jewels have been assigned to protect their race against these adversaries, two exceptional beings with rather weak compositions are continuously struggling to find their worth.

Phos, who has a Mohs hardness of 3.5, wants nothing more than to be able to fight alongside the stronger jewels. But since Phos has been deemed too fragile for this kind of task, Kongo, the jewels' master, has assigned them to instead create an encyclopedia, gathering together the most interesting information about their land.

However, Phos knew that they could not possibly do this on their own, and thus decided to seek out the help of another jewel named Cinnabar.

But while Cinnabar only has a Mohs hardness of 2, the jewel's body carries a very powerful poison to compensate for their weakness. Cinnabar also seems rather cautious about trusting anyone. And although Cinnabar wants nothing more than to leave their job of being a night watch, the jewel being also could not just agree to Phos' proposition without knowing what awaits them in the long run.

Can Phos come up with a task that only Cinnabar can do in order to convince the reluctant jewel to come along on their journey? What challenges await the two of them should they decide to venture out together? Will they even be able to survive the Lunarians, who will no doubt be hunting them along the way?
