Larry King News: Host Reveals Lung Cancer Battle and Recalls 1987 Heart Attack
Larry King is known for his role in the broadcasting world. Hosting his very own "Larry King Now," the 83-year-old Hollywood veteran has revealed that he is currently facing some health difficulties as reports indicate that he has contracted lung cancer. The news was understandably met with worry from the fans even as King hurried to assure them in a recent interview.
"'Let's do a chest X-ray, and the doctor said to me, 'Something looks funny,'" King recalled during a recent interview wit Us Weekly. "They said the spot looked pretty small. ... I then did a CAT scan then a PET scan and then he said to me, 'You have lung cancer, but it looks very small, in the beginning stages.'"
Meanwhile, People was also given some information for what he is going through. Although King was originally supposed to go on a two-week European tour, the host had to return to remove the mass that the doctors found in his lungs. His doctor told him that if he had not gotten it checked, it would have developed into a real problem in a couple of years, at most. The surgery took 20 percent of his lung and although he suffered some pain and shortness of breath afterward, King was able to go back to work after a week of recuperation.
Previously, King also suffered a heart attack in 1987. It was reportedly due to his habit of smoking three packs a day. After he recovered from the event, King told his interviewers that he never reached for a stick again. However, it seems that the effects lasted as the doctors also told him that the lung cancer that they recently discovered stemmed from the same cause.
Currently, King is being cautious of his health as he recently recovered from the lung surgery. However, he continues to reassure his fans that he is almost completely alright.
