'Law and Order: SVU' Season 17 Spoilers, Plot News: Premiere Episode Inspired by the Robert Durst Story
A new plot spoiler report for the upcoming season of NBC's hit police-procedural drama TV series "Law and Order: SVU" said that its premiere episode will be adapting a real-life major news headliner that shook the country.
Enstarz.com reported that the Season 17 premiere of the Mariska Hargitay-led crime drama will take its inspiration from the Robert Durst story.
Drawing speculations from the recently-released promo teaser, the publication said that the two-hour season opener special will focus on the case of "a wealthy, seemingly untouchable serial killer whose case mirrors Dursts, down to the trash bags full of body parts and the inadvertent confession seemingly caught on tape."
The video added hints that the suspect is a wealthy New Yorker.
"This is the one America will be talking about, again," the tagline of the preview clip said.
The pop culture mag added that the forthcoming segment will finally complete the "Law & Order –Robert Durst trifecta" which includes the 2002 "Criminal Intent" episode featuring an affluent cross-dresser murdering his mob-daughter friend and the 2004 "Law & Order" episode which saw actor Henry Stram playing the "eccentric cross-dressing millionaire" who killed his wife and later on, his neighbour.
The all-new episode, meanwhile, will see the return of a big baddie from the past season. Enstarz added to the report that actor Dallas Roberts will be reprising his role as the serial killer Greg Yates – the evil doctor who caused so much terror in the SVU and "Chicago P.D. crossover episodes.
"Law & Order: SVU" Season 17 premieres Sept. 23 on NBC.
