'Law & Order' Season 17 Spoilers: New Episode To Take On The Duggar Family Controversy?
Known for featuring stories ripped from the headlines, NBC's long-running police-procedural drama TV series, "Law & Order" is adapting yet another controversial real-life case into the show's upcoming episode.
Titled "Patrimonial Burden," the spoiler reports from International Business Times said that the episode's storyline will put a twist on the controversy surrounding the Duggar family - the stars of TLC's hit reality TV series "19 Kids and Counting."
In the small screen drama, Olivia Benson and her crew will be investigating a reality TV family, whose 13-year old daughter is discovered to be pregnant. The girl is one of the 10 children of the clan. As the investigation continues, several shocking revelations turn up.
Actors Christopher Sieber and Geneva Carr joins "Law & Order: SVU" as guest stars for this episode. The two are particularly taking the roles of the patriarch and matriarch of the huge family. Also appearing in this segment are MTV's "Are You The One?" show hosts Ryan Devlin, Victoria Leigh, and Chris Elliot in yet to be confirmed parts.
Peter Scanvino, the actor who plays Detective Carisi, previously shared (via Enstars) what he felt with the show taking on one of the country's controversial family issues.
"I wouldn't mind doing one just because I have never been so infuriated with someone's level of hypocrisy, and lying, and then displacement of responsibility onto something else," he said. "When I think about that guy, it boils my blood, I will say."
Raul Esparza, who plays Rafael Barba, meanwhile noted (via IBT) that the details in the episode would be different from what really happened. However, viewers who are also following the topic may be likely to recognize the similarity of the situation.
For the meantime, the next episode of "Law & Order: SVU" Season 17 is titled "Community Policing" and it is about detectives from another precinct shooting and killing an unarmed SVU rape suspect.
The show airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on NBC.
