'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit' Season 17 Preview: Episode 7 Based On Duggar Family Controversy
One of the longest-running crime procedural television series, "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" is doing an episode that is inspired by the recent Duggar Family molestation scandal. In the upcoming episode titled "Patrimonial Burden," the detectives of the SVU investigate the case of a pregnant teenage girl who is a part of a family that has a known reality TV show.
According to a report on E! Online, which is based on an episode sneak peek, the detectives, led by Detective Olivia Benson, will try to uncover who among the family is responsible for the girl's ordeal. In a clip as described in the report, Benson is seen talking to the victim named Lane, who called her pregnancy part of "God's will." When Benson told her that she did not "do anything wrong," Lane said that the father of her child also said the same thing.
According to CarterMatt, the show's take on the Duggar family scandal is nothing short of controversial. The show is known for tackling sensitive issues such as religion and race among others, so it will not be surprising to see what twist it will bring to the story.

The show is on its 17th season, which kicked off on September 23. This season brings some major changes to the unit, among them the departure of actor Danny Pino from the show. Detective Sergeant Benson will also be stepping up as she gets promoted to Lieutenant sometime during the season. The other female detective in the unit, Amanda Rollins, is dealing with her being pregnant as she continues to work in the unit. According to a report in TV Guide, the characters of Assistant District Attorney Rafael Barba (played by Raul Esparza) and Detective Sonny Carisi (played by Peter Scanavino) will also be seen being developed throughout the season.
"Law & Order: SVU" airs every Wednesday, 9 p.m. at NBC.
