'Law & Order: SVU' News: Cast Talks Show at Paleyfest New York, Season 16 Episode 5 Plot Revealed

"Law & Order: SVU" has come a long way since it premiered in 1999 as a spinoff from the original "Law and Order."

At the "Law & Order: SVU" panel discussion at the Paleyfest New York Festival on Oct. 13, the cast and producers were on hand to answer questions about the current season and the future of the show.

According to the Wall Street Journal, show creator Dick Wolf said that the show will continue "as long as physically possible." He also said that the TV series deserves some credit for the way sex crimes and domestic violence are being discussed today.

"In the first 10 years of the show, it revolutionized the reporting of sex crimes. The instance of people coming forward was dramatically increased in a lot of jurisdictions," said Wolf.

Executive producer Warren Leight also mentioned the great lengths in which they make sure that every episode is believable, especially when it comes to portraying police procedure. Leight said that the show's writers often invite guest speakers who are experts on things such as interrogations.

Aside from being believable, the writers also do storylines that are relevant to the times. Recent episodes tackled the Donald Sterling as well as the Jay Z and Solange Knowles elevator incident. Another recent episode took on Elliott Rodger's manifesto and killing spree.

When asked about how the actors respond to the serious subjects that they portray on the show without bringing their work home, Ice- T, one of the regular cast members since 2000 said, "We shoot it out of sequence so we don't know how heavy it is until it's all put together."

"You got to remember we're on the set. Even though that little kid is crying, there's craft services and people standing around so it's not as dramatic while we're making it," he added.

Meanwhile, here's the official synopsis of season 16, episode 5 titled "Pornstar's Requiem."

"A college student becomes a pornography star, and then she is sexually assaulted by some classmates who confuse fantasy with reality. When the case goes to court, the victim lands in the hot seat as questioning gets underway," it reads.

Watch season 16, episode 5 of "Law & Order: SVU" on Oct. 22 at 9 p.m. on NBC.
