'Law & Order: SVU' Season 17 News, Spoilers: Squad Tackles on Underage Law-Breaking Case and Transphobia
Third episode into the 17th season of NBC's hit police-procedural drama TV series "Law & Order: SVU" and things are already getting more intense as this week's segment will be focusing on some of today's most sensitive gender-related issues.
Titled "Transgender Bridge," the spoiler reports (via Cartermatt) indicated that Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and the rest of the Special Victims Unit (SVU) squad will be on a case involving a young transgender who is hurt badly after being pushed off a bridge. The culprit, who turns out to be as young as the victim, is being held responsible for the crime and must face the harsh punishment of it. Needless to say, juvenile delinquency is an issue that requires specialized handling and the SVU will find out more about it.
The publication further shared the episode's synopsis that tells of a 15-year-old Avery Parker (played by guest star Christopher Dylan White) who was suddenly blocked by a group of rowdy boys while she was passing through Fort Tryon Park on her way home from school. What started out as taunting escalates to a more physical pushing and shoving which leads to her falling off a bridge. She ends up in the hospital and three alleged bullies are caught and placed under arrest.
When the District Attorney's office decides to take over the case and puts one of the older culprits, Darius McCrae (played by guest star Dante Brown), to stand on trial as an adult despite being only 15, Benson realizes the extent of the punishment and contemplates on whether or not the kid deserves the severity of the sentence.
The SVU team needs to make sure that justice will be served for Avery's part but at the same time ensure the accused teenager's welfare as the victim's family insisted for McCrae's incarceration.
Adding to the pressure is the heightened level of public attention that the case has garnered.
How will Benson and company handle this situation that mirrors today's current events?
